New Drawback: HyperFocused

HyperFocused

Bonus: 35 Hero Points

Phenomenon that reflects one's complete absorption in a task, to a point where a person appears to completely ignore or 'tune out' everything else. It is generally reported to occur when a person is engaged in an activity that must be completed or done.

Hyperfocused can kick in at anytime, a task must be completed, an item must be retrieved or it could even be to thwart the plans of an individual or group.

**Evil Note: I know I probably could have used Irrational Attraction as a drawback, but when I was playing games using certain villains, such as Vandal Savage, I always played him as if he had this drawback in life and it makes more sense based on his history too.

New Power: Velocity-9

Velocity-9

This drugs that allows temporary access to the Speed Force aka Superspeed power for 24 hours. Despite its benefits, this drug is also very dangerous, as it causes cellular degeneration and eventually death. In addition, subjects of the serum have demonstrated mental instability or disorders such as split personalities.

Bonus: Granted Superspeed power at 9

Limitations: Lasts only for 24 hours.

Usage: When using V-9, the user must make a check, using Will/Will vs 9/9 for V-9, failure results in gaining drawback of Irrational Attraction V-9 Addiction.

Addiction Period: Afterwards the user now craves it and will do anything, including kill to get a hold of it, to use it again, for they only have 48 hours to obtain, otherwise fall into coma, get treatment or eventually die.

Stage 1: After 24 hours of not using it again, characters will also gain drawbacks Rage and Psychological Instability.

Stage 2: After 48 hours of not using it the character will collapse into a coma and must be treated or die.

Treatment: An addict can seek medical treatment by going to a Hospital and be under the care of Scholar (Medicine) character for 3 months. The first month, the character will undergo treatment  and be bed ridden, after that the addict is released and must return for treatment therapy once a week for 8 weeks.

**Evil Note: I had so much fun with this drug, as I had a PC who used it got addicted to it and the whole campaign became a fun race of who could finally catch this PC and stop him to treat him. The best part was trying to temp the character after they started the treatment time!

  • Alter Ego: Tommy Monaghan

  • Whereabouts: Gotham City

  • Group Affiliation: N/A

  • Background:

Tommy Monaghan is a Hitman with minor telepathic powers. Despite his violent profession, he is in good standing with the superhero community. Tommy Monaghan was born to Kathryn Monaghan, an Irish prostitute, in Gotham City. His mother had a habit of naming her children after the johns who impregnated her, all holier-than-thou citizens who used her services away from prying eyes, in order to shame them before the whole town, but Tommy's father, ruthless businessman Tom Dawson, was a violent man who threatened to kill Kathryn if she named her unborn son after him; Kathryn did so anyway, as her hatred for Dawson was stronger than her fear of him. As a warning, once Dawson heard of this from the obstetrician that gave Kathryn the news that she had another child on the way, he had her house burnt down, killing three of her children. Kathryn fled to the United States, and left Tommy with a Catholic orphanage in Gotham City. Dawson tracked her down and mutilated her. She later died from her injuries.

Tommy grew up in St. Killian's Orphanage under the guidance of Sister Concepta and Sean Noonan, the latter of which treated him like a son. He befriended Sean's nephew Pat, and the two remained friends into their adulthood. Tommy joined the United States Marine Corps, where he met Natt Walls. He and Natt became friends when Tommy took his side against two corrupt Marine recruits. They served together in Operation Desert Storm in Iraq and saw little action, though they did accidentally kill a group of British S.A.S. troops.

Upon returning to the United States, Tommy became a hitman, and he worked for several mafia families and government agencies. Though he killed for a living, he maintained a firm rule of never killing a good person. This rule came into play several times in Tommy's life as he had encounters with police officers and superheroes. Tommy himself became a superhuman when he was performing a hit on the head of the Dubelz Crime Family. One of the Bloodlines Parasites, the hideous Glonth, killed his target, then attempted to kill Tommy by draining his spinal cord fluid. The attack left Tommy alive and able to read minds and see through solid objects. Tommy and the demon Etrigan worked together to temporarily defeat Glonth and kill Joe Dublez. The death of the Dubelz patriarch, however, earned him the hatred of that family.

Etrigan hired Tommy to help him remove Asteroth from power in Gotham City. Asteroth had gotten a religious group called the Choirboy Commandoes to guard him. Etrigan, being a demon of Hell, was not equipped to face them. Tommy was able to decimate the Choirboy Commandoes, as well as Asteroth's thugs, long enough for Etrigan to send Asteroth back to Hell.

During another of Jason Blood and Etrigan's ongoing conflicts, Tommy's services were again purchased, this time by Blood. Tommy was to watch the aged wizard Merlin and kill him if he moved against Blood. Tommy did his job, shooting the man. Blood, after dealing with Etrigan's plot, skipped town without paying Tommy the two million dollars he promised.

When the wrath of the Dubelz family came to Tommy, in which Pat Noonan was killed for not revealing Tommy's location to an associate of Moe Dubelz, Tommy declared vengeance on the entire Dubelz family, and he managed to kill every one of them. The Arkannone, Hell's lords of the gun, were impressed by Tommy's ability to kill so effectively, and they sought to employ him as their earthly agent. He resisted, and the Arkannone sent the Mawzir after him. Tommy managed to kill the Mawzir and the Arkannone with the help of Etrigan. The incident had also led to his on and off relationship with a honest GCPD detective Deborah Tiegel.

Tommy's activities also catches the attention of Mr. Truman, a CIA Agent who despised metahumans and attempted to enlist Tommy to a special group in controlling and eliminating the metahuman population under the interests of the United States; Truman ensured that if Tommy rejected his offer then he would be killed while appearing to be resisting a police arrest. Tommy, however, undermined Truman by secretly recording his conspiracy while under a wiretap and bringing incriminating evidence against him with help from Deborah Tiegel and Green Lantern.

Tommy had several encounters with superheroes and villains. His dealings with heroes often coming at odds over Tommy's career, such as Batman. But in some cases can be notably amicable. Amazingly, one of the heroes that actually appreciated Tommy was Superman, who became Tommy's confidant. Regardless of Tommy's occupation, he proved himself as a hero when he helped the Justice League in eradicating a Bloodlines Parasite outbreak on their satellite headquarters.

Tommy would again come into another conflict with Truman over the protection of Maggie Lorenzo, a homeless woman who witnessed an escaped subject of Truman's experiment to duplicate the effects of the Bloodlines incident. Allying with Natt Walls and Kathryn McAllister (a defecting associate of Truman), Tommy destroys Truman's experiment, ultimately leading to a final showdown in which he and Natt were killed but not before killing Truman in the process. Tommy's passing did not go unheard of in the superhero community. Superman was devastated by the news and admitted that he admired Tommy's moral courage in extreme situations.

Gotham Legends Actual Play Episode 4 - Finale

After taking out the thugs at the bookstore and saving the author, the group follows up on a lead that takes them into old Gotham subway, where they meet up with.... The big bad behind things. This was the final episode we did as this was only a small mini-series of games and just trying out the system during COVID. The group did have fun with this game and wanted to bring it back recently. I have been kind of prepping for a new game and looking forward to season 2 with new characters. Sometime in April it will happen, Maybe!

Gotham Legends Actual Play Episode 3

The Group gets a lead there is a hostage situation a local bookstore in downtown Gotham. A famous author and scientist is being held hostage as the group figures out how to get in and save him! Decided to throw a typical hostage situation at the group as its probably something that would happen in Gotham and I made it so the people involved were important enough the group would care. Though as heroes, they should be willing to save anyone that needs help.

New Power: Bloodlust

Range: Normal
Type: Dice
Base Cost: 40

A character who has the Bloodlust power craves shedding blood and killing their prey. They can use this ability to stalk their prey and hear the heartbeat of the prey with in 15 feet of them. When first attacking with Bloodlust, the character would substitute the power of Bloodlust as their AV/EV. If the attack misses, the character is not in a bloodlust and must wait 2 turns before trying to use it again. IF the attack is successful, the character will stay in Bloodlust for as many turns as their power of APs.

When tracking or listening to heartbeats, the powers AP will be used for AV/EV.

New Advantage: Reputation

Cost: 10/25/50 Points (see description)

Characters with Reputation have "earned" their status, whether it be unnerving or positive good vibes among a group of people in an area. There is three levels of this Advantage. The lowest level 10 points would only apply to a neighborhood in a city, 25 points would apply to a whole city and maybe even state the character resides in, and 50 points would be know by almost anyone who utters their name.

When a character makes a Charisma: Intimidation check, they receive a -1CS bonus to the OV. The GM must determine how and when this would apply to the situation at hand.

Note: I have to wonder why this was not including in the Batman RPG and I admit I got the idea for this from Marvel FASERIP RPG, either way, it was needed for my game.

Thursday, March 3, 2022

New Advantage: Sex Appeal

Cost: 20 Points

A Character with this advantage is deemed very good looking to the opposite sex and is able to influence opinions and thoughts of other characters. This advantage can only be selected during character creation, though a GM may award it to a character based on his campaign story.

Characters who choose to do this, will receive a -2 Column Shift modifier to the OV when using the Charisma skill.

New Power: Vampirism

Range: Touch
Type: Dice
Base Cost: 55

Vampirism allows a character to transfer (bite) APs of Body from a target to his own Body. To attempt the action requires a check with AV/EVs equal to the APs of the Power and OV/RVs equal to the opponent's DEX/BODY; RAPS equal the number of APs transferred through the Vampirism bite. Any and all APs transferred through use of Vampirism will repair any body damage the character has taken and may never rise about the character's max Body attribute, but a character may use this as a form of attack to harm.

This type of power attack is always considered killing combat, as you are literally draining the life force out of another and should you drain enough to get the target to their negative Body Attribute, they will die and rise 24 hours later as a minor Vampire, with Vampirism Rank 1. If its a player character, the character is dead and now an NPC.

*Game Master's Note: I am aware there is a Vampirism power in later editions of DC Heroes and I probably could have ported that over, but I decided when I wrote it, I would change it up a bit making it a bite only attack, and the fact that if someone is killed by it, they rise as a minor vampire subservient to the now Master Vampire.

New Advantage: Immortality

Vandal Savage

Cost: 50 Points

This NEW advantage for the Batman Role-playing game will allow the character to reach peak adulthood and then stop aging completely.  This character can not die of aging effects and will never grow old. Which means powers or things that would affect a character's age do not apply to those that have this advantage. An Immortal character can die by other means of losing health from physical, mental and magical attacks.

Immortal characters will often live their life changing their identities as they move from place to place to hide this ability they have. Some immortals over time think immortality to be a curse, while others just live their lives out as best as they can.

The Protector

Another character from the campaign, but did not get picked by a player. I thought for sure he would have gotten picked, but was not. Enjoy!
